We just returned from CAF 2018 it was a gret show.
Here are a few pics and some comments from visitors to our room.
To be fair and transparent about this, the GT Audio Works GT3R planar ribbon speakers do not — (I repeat) DO NOT — need sub-woofers. Yet the exhibitors decided that the GT3R’s would best deployed at CAF with the additions of a few Sound Insight’s SI600 self-powered open-baffle sub-woofers. The sub-woofer configuration was six 12″ servo-driven subs per side. It was absolute madness all the way down to 16Hz. Do we need this? Was it fantastically hilarious and serious at the same time? Definitely to both.
"Sound Insight from Massapequa, Long Island brought along the newest version of their big hybrid planar ribbon/dynamic, open baffle woofer system to CAF. The speaker’s midrange panel runs $17k and goes down to 50 Hz. The diagphram is a bit out the ordinary not using common materials like Mylar. Instead the GTA3r uses a special composite material from Japan that allows the use of copper wiring on the panel. Price on the open baffle woofer system depends on the number of sub woofers; the all out towers arrangement shown at CAF runs $28k. The rest of the system’s electronics consisted of PASS XA 60.8 amplifiers, PASS XS preamplifier and phonostage. A $6800 Semper Sonus TE1 epicyclic drive (rim) Turntable from Portugal outfitted with a Schick tonearm and Lyra Kleos cartridge spun 12-inch black discs. Wiring was provided by Triode Labs.
The sound was much improved over last year. The soundstage was massive yet every instrument’ was precisely separated, layered and located. There was a real magic in the midrange with vocals and the system was very transparent. Definitely some speakers to keep an ear out for!"
A few videos I recorded of the system we will be showing at CAF 2018
GTA3R planar ribbon speakers with matching Sound Insight SI600 powered open baffle sub woofers in Cyber Metallic Grey.
These speakers and subs mate extremely well together and have been designed for integrated in room dialed in performance.
The dipole nature of the speakers demands a sub woofer with the same dipole radiating pattern for the best performance.
Weather listening to large powerful orchestral and electronic music or delicate and intimate acoustic instruments, this system is adept at reproducing any recording with equal agility. The speakers and subs are available in a variety of options such as custom colors, finish, binding post type, floor spikes and ribbon tweeter capacitor.
The new one of a kind wide band driver in the GTA3R uses a proprietary membrane material that reduces resonances common in stretched diaphragm type speakers to a new low, along with the fact that the driver uses no crossover and is direct coupled to the driving amp gives it excellent resolution and efficiency. The GTA3R is designed and manufactured in house and uses no OEM drivers.
The SI series of open baffle subs are available in a variety of woofer configurations to suit your room size.
From two 12" drivers per side for smaller to medium sized listening rooms all the way up to six 12" drivers per side for large rooms.
These subs are fully powered and adjustable for all bass parameters for excellent in room integration.
Response is down to 16 hz, yes...even on the smaller subs !!
System cost varies according to size and options
Stereo pairs of powered subs vary from $6k for the 2x12" to $25K for the 6x12"

Who is GT Audio Works ?
I have had a passion for building speakers since I was in my early 20's, 30 years later I started GTAW. Over those 30 years, I built all types of speakers , eventually settling on the magnetic planar/ribbon dipole as my favorite.
While I enjoyed owning most of the planar magnetic and electrostatic speakers made at the time, in my opinion they each had their strong and weak points. After years of building and listening and rebuilding and more listening , I came upon the idea of my full range planar driver. The GTA3R is the full realization of that idea.
I invite you to contact me in NJ, or Steve Rabitz at Sound Insight in Massapequa NY to give them a listen.

I designed the GTA3R planar driver to operate full range, no crossover , directly wired to the amp. Why do I believe this so important ?
Consider what a crossover does. It takes the full range music signal, segments it and contours each segment to feed multiple drivers, each designed to reproduce a portion of the music signal.
My biggest issue with this approach is, our ears and brain are very adept at deciphering very minuscule difference in sound, especially in the critical midrange. Breaking this critical range up and reproducing it with 2 or more drivers of different materials and accompanying electrical delay creates a discrepancy we may not notice at first, but after extended listening, you know something is not right.
The GTA3R planar driver is adept at reproducing a large piece of the music signal from 40 hz to 6khz, it is intimately coupled with your amplifier to reproduce every nuance of the music signal your amp provides. None of the distortions and power robbing issues associated with crossovers.
To use an apt analogy.....consider speaking to someone in your native language, there is a direct understanding of the conversation. Now consider speaking to someone through a translator, you will get the general idea of the conversation, but you will be not be hearing the speakers intended message, only the translators approximation of that message. The conversation will not flow naturally, it will be choppy by the nature of everything being filtered through he translator.
If you were listening only to acoustic music, the planar driver may satisfy you on its own.
But we want our speakers to reproduce all kinds of music.
The GTA3R's ribbon tweeter is designed with a simple series capacitor 1st order crossover network which is the most phase coherent way to do it. The tweeter is designed to blend in the top octave of the music with as little misinterpretation as possible. Together they make for a full range listening experience that can start, stop and turn on a dime, while resolving every nuance of the music.
Add an open baffle sub woofer and you will turn a very dynamic planar/ribbon speaker into a monster. Pipe organ ? Rock concerts at live levels that sock you in the stomach ?
Just sit back and and listen to your favorite piece of music, immersed in the visceral experience like few speaker systems can replicate.
